We hopped off the boat on Koh Phangan (pronounced "pan-yham") about 1.5 hours ago. We were supposed to be in a resort on the beach, however, they double-booked, leaving us with no room. They have, however, a hotel only steps from the resort (NOT on the beach though), where they upgraded us to a room with air conditioning...that's a nice upgrade!
We left our room after slowing/cooling down in the room watching the last bit of a movie, and strolled into the town of Thong Sala. We wanted to get some food, but there are so many rickety and risky-looking places along the way that we made it all the way back to the pier before we found this really neat little bakery. Lindsay is currently eating a pineapple lattice, and I'm taking advantage of their free internet.
We are here for 6 nights, although, in the middle of stay, we have to take an overnight boat to mainland Thailand, and then a bus into Myanmar to increase our travel visa...it's a ridiculous process, but it allows us to stay until our plane leaves :)
While we are here we will spending lots of time on the beaches, and we found a map book that has 4 different self-guided tours that you can do if you have a scooter. We might do those for a couple days as it should save us some money and give us some reprieve from the scorching sun.
PS - the hockey tickets are booked - awesome!
